BackSander Table – Round, D 480, H 400 – Clear – Glass

from 2 554 $

The Sander table, from 2010 consists of a mouth-blown crystal cone paired with a hardened circular glass tabletop.

Initially, the cone is a bottle, but the base is knocked off using a cold tool against the hot glass. The basic shape is denoted by three circles, and the magic is in a neck so narrow that it looks like it might fall right off. It does not, however, because the adhesive attaching the glass tabletop is cured with a UV light. This technology can only be used on glass and makes the joint stronger than the actual material.

Consider the placement of this table to avoid objects from falling on it or being bumped into. This table is strong and durable, however take care not to put too much pressure or load on the table top and avoid placing sharp or rough objects on the surface. Dust the surfaces regularly, you can use either glass cleaner and paper towels or a lint-free towel to clean the glass surface from fingerprints and other stains. Be sure to change out towels as they get damp and dirty, this will help to prevent any streaking of the surface. Never use razor blades or anything similar to remove anything stuck to the surface, blades or scrapers can dislodge ‘pickup’ on toughened glass, these are fine particles that are fused to the surface during toughening, once dislodged they can scratch the surface.

Sander Table – Round, D 480, H 400 – Clear – Glass

“Glass is a fascinating material – clear, pure and uncomplicated visually. But when you get into the process of working with it, it’s incredibly complicated. There are many rules and restrictions, so I wanted to play with contrast of how it looks so simple but needs a lot of precision in the production process.”

Sander Table collection

About the collection

The first sketch of Sander was perhaps as simple as the Tim Robbins sketch of the hula hoop in the movie The Hudsucker Proxy. From above Sander is made out to just be three concentric circles, where the top, neck and base connect with the tabletop. In reality there is a lot more to it.

Sander’s cone base is mouth blown into a steel mold. When producing the first table a great deal of effort went into producing the mold and working with the glass blower, in order to get a consistent quality in the wall thickness of the cone.

Nevertheless, Sander is a bit risky: he is so transparent that you might walk right into him. Manufacturing in glass is a risky endeavor that requires expertise. That is why the table is made in the Czech Republic, one of the world’s most important glass regions.

The table is named after Massproductions founder, Magnus Elebäck’s son.
